Hen Ffermdy, Castlemorris, Pembrokeshire

Hen Ffermdy (Old Farmhouse) holiday cottage is nestled on a south-facing hillside just two miles from the beaches of Abermawr and Aberbach, it’s a beautifully restored traditional Welsh farmhouse offering the perfect blend of comfort and nature to guests who holiday here. Over the years, the house has been lovingly renovated from a derelict state, along with the restoration of the old mill pond and surrounding gardens, creating a peaceful sanctuary for both guests and local wildlife to enjoy. Over thousand trees have been planted around the property, to create an establishing woodland that guests are also encouraged to explore.

Situated in the north of the wider Haverfordwest area in Llangloffan Isaf, Castlemorris, Hen Ffermdy feels secluded but is conveniently located just a short distance from the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path (2 miles), the wonderful coastal towns of Fishguard (6 miles) and Newport, Pembs (12 miles), the smallest city in the UK - St Davids (10 miles), and the larger town of Haverfordwest (12 miles).

Hen Ffermdy combines rustic charm with modern comforts and offers a spacious layout with beautiful countryside views from most of it’s windows. The large kitchen offers plenty of space for preparing meals and dining together. It’s perfectly equipped for a large family self catering holiday, offering a full range of kitchen appliances, utensils and a large dinner set. Whether cooking up a feast with local produce or simply enjoying a leisurely breakfast, this space is both practical and inviting.

The living room is a warm and welcoming space, with comfy sofas, a wood burning stove, an additional dining area and an extensive library of over a thousand titles, covering an eclectic range of fact and fiction. Guests can unwind with a good book or explore the vinyl collection for a nostalgic evening of music.

Guests have the choice of four charming bedrooms, all feature underfloor heating and hairdryers. Barney is a charming bedroom with a sloped ceiling and a luxurious king-size bed. Its spacious private bathroom is conveniently located just across the hall (two steps away). For added flexibility, the bed can be set up as a twin upon request. Brinley is a stylish king-size ensuite room featuring a wonderful window seat with views over the millpond and Llangloffan Fen. Mabel is an elegant ensuite room, boasting a French antique king-size bed and a spacious bathroom with a bath and shower. It also enjoys a window seat with views of the millpond and Llangloffan Fen. Mable and Brinley both have smart TVs. On the ground floor the forth bedroom, Burton offers a delightful twin bedroom with a separate shower room.

Nature lovers will find plenty to enjoy here, with an abundance of wildlife and outdoor spaces designed for relaxation and exploration. The property is home to eight different species of bats, as well as wild ducks, moorhens, newts and emperor dragonflies around the wildlife pond, where a heron occasionally visits. For outdoor dining, guests can choose between a covered bar area with a large slate table or a secluded slate table under the trees, overlooking the pond. A yoga platform offers a peaceful retreat, while the fire pit provides the perfect setting for cozy evenings under the stars. A stumpery attracts even more wildlife, creating a haven for insects and birds. There’s also a lockable shed for storage, ideal for keeping outdoor gear secure. Wildlife enthusiasts will be thrilled by regular sightings of Barn Owls, Swallows, Buzzards, Emperor Dragonflies, and Hummingbird Hawk Moths, and with two Sites of Special Scientific Interest just a 10-minute walk away, it’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature.

Just a short stroll down the hill, via a stunning National Trust woodland walk, you’ll find two spectacular beaches – Abermawr and Aberbach. Whether you’re walking the dog, looking to go for a swim, watch for seals and seabirds, or simply relax on the sand, these unspoiled coastal spots on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path provide a perfect escape.

Pets are allowed at Hen Ffermdy too, making it the perfect holiday cottage for families or small groups with pets to stay in north Pembrokeshire. There is plenty of space to walk the dogs in the garden and fields, and a fantastic selection of beaches to explore nearby.
