Nestled just outside Cardigan, the Cilgerran Nature Reserve Boardwalk offers one of the most beautiful and accessible walks in West Wales. Located within the spectacular Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve-one of the finest wetland habitats in Wales-the boardwalk provides a peaceful journey through ancient woodland, reedbeds and riverside scenery before leading towards the Welsh Wildlife Centre.

Walking the Boardwalk
The boardwalk forms part of a 2.9 km (1.8 mile) circular walk, taking approximately 45 minutes to 1½ hours, depending on how often you stop to enjoy the wildlife or visit the bird hides.
Option 1 – Start at the Welsh Wildlife Centre

This is the most popular starting point and offers excellent visitor facilities before or after your walk.
Option 2 – Start from Cardigan
You can also begin from Station Road (near Tivy Tyres), Cardigan, SA43 3AD.
Walk down the road until you reach the large gate beneath the bridge where the wide concrete riverside path begins. This flat, accessible path follows the beautiful River Teifi and passes several bird hides overlooking the marshes.
After around one minute on the main path, you'll find a small gate on your right. This marks the entrance to the boardwalk.
Step through the gate and enjoy one of the most tranquil woodland walks in Ceredigion, surrounded by birdsong, towering trees and stunning wetland scenery.

Nature reserve: Open all year.
Visitor Centre, Café and Shop: Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (opening times may vary seasonally).
Dogs
Dogs are welcome on the reserve but must be kept on a lead to protect wildlife. Only assistance dogs are permitted inside the visitor centre building, although dogs are welcome on the café balcony.
Best Time to Visit the Wildlife Centre Boardwalk
Every season offers something special:
Spring – Bluebells, nesting birds and fresh greenery.
Summer – Dragonflies, butterflies, wildflowers and active kingfishers.
Autumn – Spectacular woodland colours and peaceful walks.
Winter – Thousands of wintering birds, including the famous starling murmurations, as well as ducks, geese and waders.
Top Tips
Bring binoculars for the best wildlife viewing.
Visit early morning or late afternoon for the greatest chance of seeing otters and kingfishers.
Allow extra time to explore the bird hides.
Wear waterproof footwear after heavy rain.
Don't forget your camera—the scenery is stunning throughout the year.

The Teifi Marshes Circular Walk
For those wanting to experience more of the reserve, the 2-mile circular walk is highly recommended.
You can begin either from the Welsh Wildlife Centre car park or from Station Road in Cardigan, with both routes linking together.
.Starting from Station Road, follow the riverside path before taking the first right onto the attractive boardwalk trail. From here the route meanders through woodland, wetlands and grazing marshes, offering fantastic opportunities to experience the rich wildlife of the reserve.
Although this route isn't fully accessible due to sections of boardwalk and uneven paths, it is generally a gentle and enjoyable walk. Along the way you'll pass grazing cattle, ponies and playful foals, while numerous wildlife hides provide excellent places to pause and watch nature.
If you're lucky, you may even spot the flash of a kingfisher darting along the waterways.Roughly halfway around the walk you'll arrive back at the Glasshouse Café, making it the perfect place to stop for refreshments before completing your circuit.
