October Half Term Break Away from Halloween Costumes & Pumpkins
You don't need pumpkins and witches to find a little October magic in Pembrokeshire.
Spend an autumn morning exploring Newport, with its beautiful estuary, independent shops and cafés, before wrapping up for a family walk beside the River Nevern. Nearby, the atmospheric ruins of Nevern Castle and the ancient stones of Pentre Ifan are wonderful places to introduce curious young explorers to some of the myths, legends and history of this corner of Wales. Over in St Dogmaels, explore the impressive ruins of St Dogmaels Abbey and Coach House Cafe, before wandering through the village or heading towards the coast at Poppit Sands. On a crisp October day, it's a lovely combination of history, fresh air and spectacular scenery. www.cadw.gov.wales/visit/places-to-visit/st-dogmaels-abbey-and-coach-house
And with Halloween approaching, it's the perfect time to discover the Welsh traditions of Nos Galan Gaeaf, the night before Calan Gaeaf, traditionally marking the beginning of winter in Wales. With ancient ruins, misty hills and plenty of local legends, you don't have to look far to find a little autumn atmosphere around here!
