Getting to Pwllgwaelod

Pwllgwaelod beach is just 1 mile off the main A487 road between Newport and Dinas Cross.

Heading there from Newport - Leave Newport south bound towards Fishguard and after about 2.7 miles you will see “Pwllgwaelod” sign posted, make the turn right onto the B4582 and follow the road all the way down to the beach car park.

From Fishguard - Head north towards Newport and as you go through Dinas Cross you will see “Pwllgwaelod” sign posted, make the turn left onto the B4582 and follow the road all they way down to the beach car park.

If you’re walking from Newport, head down to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path at Parrog and head left along the sea front, just stay on the path until you arrive in Cwm yr Eglwys (3 miles), from here you can either continue right on the coast path around Dinas Head (2.5 miles), or walk through the car park and take the shorter, flat and direct path to Pwllgwaelod (0.75 miles). Although the Dinas Head route is longer, on a nice day it offers some breath-taking views, and you may even be lucky enough to see seals in the coves near Pwllgwaelod. From Fishguard, head to Lower Town Fishguard and join the coast path, it’s a steep climb out but just stay on the path until you reach Pwllgwaelod (5.5 miles).

Buses run every hour from Newport and Fishguard, passing through Dinas Cross, you will want to hop off at The Cross, just next to the Pwllgwaelod turn. From here it’s a 1 mile walk down the road to the beach.

Walking and Hiking Pembrokeshire Coast Path. You can take a leisurely walk or a more challenging hike along the cliffs. Or Circular Walks. There are circular walking routes starting from Pwllgwaelod that take you through beautiful countryside and coastal scenery.

Beach Activities: Swimming, the bay’s calm waters are suitable for a refreshing swim. Sunbathing and Picnicking, the small sandy beach is perfect for relaxing, sunbathing, and enjoying a picnic with family or friends. The Old Sailors, this is the only pub in this small village, it is located near the beach and offers a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy a selection of international and local ales, wines, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages. The pub is a great spot to enjoy a drink with a view of the bay. Dog Friendly Beach

Dogs are allowed on Pwllgwaelod beach all year around with no summer restrictions. There are a variety of walks on offer here, from walking on the road, along the cliff path or walking on the beach. With grass to run on, a beach to enjoy, boulders to scramble on, a creek to play in, and the sea for a swim, dogs adore this place. The Old Sailor pub is dog friendly too!

Pembrokeshire Coast Path

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path passes right through Pwllgwaelod, it’s a great spot for a short or long stop depending on how much time you have.

Pwllgwaelod Beach, like all beaches in Pembrokeshire during Summer, can get very busy, and it can only accommodate small numbers due to the lack of parking. Early mornings, evenings or out of peak season maybe your best option.
