Traeth Mawr (Big Beach)- A large easily accessible sandy beach with lots of parking, a beach cafe and large sand dunes to explore.
Walking - Newport offers many wonderful walking routes, either short circular walks around the town, beach and estuary or more adventurous hikes either north or south on the world famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path or up into the Preseli Hills, starting at Carningli Mountain.
Golf - An incredible 18 hole links golf course, set high above the beach, and with fabulous views over the bay and looking over the estuary.
Food & Shopping - A wealth of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs each with a unique offering. Many of the cafes are dog friendly.
History
Newport is a small town and parish in the district of Cardigan and county of Pembrokeshire. The town stands at the head of a small bay of its own name, and at the mouth of the river Nevern. Founded in 1155 by the Norman, William FitzMartin.

Things To Do In Newport Pembs
Traeth Mawr Beach (Newport Beach)
A large sandy beach flanked by sand dunes that offers all visitors plenty of space to play and relax. Lifeguards are on patrol during the summer months - keep an eye out for their daily safety information board for the latest conditions. Traeth Mawr is a dog friendly beach all year, it’s a fantastic flat space for dogs to run and play. Newport Beach offers excellent accessibility with a large car park and two ramps down on to the beach, there are public toilets in the car park, a beach café & ice-cream shop. The beach is popular for beach games, swimming, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, sunsets, fishing, dog walking, sailing & rowing. Newport town and Newport beach are separated by a river and involve a 15-20 minute walk, or a short drive to get from one to the other. The majority of our Newport Pembrokeshire holiday cottages are on the town side of the river, however we also offer a fantastic collection of holiday cottages on the beach side, some of which offer breath-taking sea views and just a short walk to the beach - Abernyfer Beach House, Dormy House & Ben Hogan.
Parrog Beach
Estuary beach leading to Traeth Mawr. At high tide the estuary is full of water and only a small part of the beach is accessible. At low tide Parrog offers a sandy beach with easy access for launching boats. At low tide more coves and rock pools become available to explore. Parrog beach is popular for crabbing, paddling, paddle boarding, kayaking. Newport Boat Club over looks the estuary, although it’s members only, however there are often events held here, during which the club is open to the general public. There is a decent size car park here with public toilets offering disabled access. Morawelon Café is open most of the year and offers eat in and take away food and drink. This is beautiful spot to sit, recharge and enjoy the spectacular views.
Walking & Hiking
Newport is very popular for walking holidays and offers easy access to The Pembrokeshire Coastal path section of The Wales Coast Path. You can head either to the south towards Dinas Head & Fishguard or to the north towards Moylegrove & St Dogmaels. Walks up to the Preseli Hills are within easy reach from the town. Carningli Mountain being the closest, which gives incredible panoramic views across the town, Newport Bay, Dinas Head & beyond.
Golf
Newport Sands 18 hole Links Golf Course is set above the beach with beautiful views across the bay and the Preseli hills beyond. Newport Golf is open to non members and offers reasonable green fees. Cat Rock Café at the golf club provides delicious lunches, cakes & coffee.
Playground & Skate Park
There’s a childrens play park with swings, climbing frames and more, plus there’s a skate park and football pitch that’s open to the public. You can find these play facilities next to Bro Ingli School at the bottom of Long Street.
Tennis
Two tennis courts adjacent to the estuary. Booking slots are available from Club Spark, just search for Newport Pembrokeshire Tennis Club.
Horse Riding
Havards Stables just two miles from Newport provide wonderful horse riding opportunities for both experienced and beginner riders. Take a trek up onto the Preseli Hills and into the Gwaun Valley and visit the famous Dyffryn Arms, better known by locals as Bessie’s.

Ty Canol Woodland
An incredible ancient oak woodland offering several circular walks varying from 20mins to 1 hour. Great for walking the dog, running off the children or a quiet stroll. Ty Canol is set in the foot of the Preseli Hills.
